For more than a decade, Image Control has partnered with the Temora Aviation Museum to record the stories of over 450 war and peacetime veterans. This work is an ongoing cultural archive of Australia’s history, on display at the museum, as a preservation for future generations.

Edgar Pickles

I interviewed Edgar in his home in Northern Victoria in 2011 as part of the Unsung Heroes project for the Temora Aviation Museum.

A distinguished Bomber Command pilot Edgar was selected to fly the first Avro Lincoln to Australia. A photograph of that aircraft can be seen in the background.

Edgar tells how he evaded an attack by a German night fighter.

Unsung Heroes project

This is a project I have been working on since the early 2000s for the Temora Aviation Museum, where I am Project Director for Unsung Heroes.

The project aims to record, on camera oral history through a series of interviews by men and women who fought for Australia or in support of Australia in times of conflict and peace.

This video gives you an idea of the project.

Calling veterans, our unsung heroes from Image Control on Vimeo.

This visionary project aims to collect and catalogue the stories of veterans who served their country, to pass on to future generations.

We’re looking for stories of pilots, air or ground crew to share their recollections.

This is an initiative of the Temora Aviation Museum, in conjunction with Keith Webb of Image Control.
